Director of the Iraqi Dialogue Institute Opens the Fifth Baghdad International Dialogue Conference

Mr. Abbas Radi Al-Amiri, Director of the Iraqi Dialogue Institute, inaugurated the Fifth Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, organized under the theme: (Iraq: Twenty Years… What Next?).

In his opening speech, Al-Amiri recalled the events of twenty years ago, stating: “The night and day of March 20 were very heavy on the Iraqi people, who were hoping for liberation from dictatorship, only to fall under the burden of occupation.”

He added: “Since the founding of the modern Iraqi state, the country has not enjoyed stability. Iraq experienced three-month and six-month governments, followed by bloody coup regimes where killing and dragging were used as means of political change, before entering the era of dictatorship and its absurd wars, which damaged Iraq’s historical and civilizational symbolism.”
