The 5th Baghdad Dialogue Conference Kicks Off: “Iraq – Twenty Years… What Next?”

The 5th Baghdad Dialogue Conference organized by the Iraqi Dialogue Institute kicked off today in Baghdad under the theme “Iraq – Twenty Years… What Next?”. The two-day conference brings together dozens of political, security, and economic figures from Iraq and abroad.

The opening ceremony began with the Iraqi national anthem, followed by speeches from the Institute’s President Abbas Radi Al-Amiri and the Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, who emphasized the importance of dialogue in strengthening Iraq’s regional role and addressing national and regional challenges.

The first day featured several key sessions, including:

  • “Standing Firm in the Face of the Storm: Iraq and Climate Change”, discussing environmental challenges and their impact on national policy.
  • “Beyond Oil: Iraq’s Energy Needs”, focusing on the future of energy and diversification of sources.
  • “Improving Iraq’s Investment Environment”, highlighting economic reforms and facilitating a business-friendly environment for both local and international companies.

The second day of the conference, Monday, will feature a 90-minute open session with the Prime Minister, followed by sessions on governance and anti-corruption, freedom of expression and the role of social media, and concluding with the Iraqi banking system.

Ministers of Oil, Communications, Labor and Social Affairs, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank, will participate in the conference, reflecting ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and coordination between the government, the private sector, and civil society.
